Beijing... Beijing...

Have been up in Beijing since Sunday. Imagine waking up as per my normal working day just to catch the morning flight over. Dear was tired and after sending me to the airport, went back home to sleep till nearly noon.

Anyway, reached Beijing at about 3pm, after clearing customs, it is nearly 3.45 and by the time we reached the hotel, it is nearly 5. All of us checked in and agreed to meet at about 5.45 to go for dinner and shopping.

Went over to Wang Fu Jing - the tourist place for shopping and dinner. Actually we went shopping first, for books, which is really cheap when you pay in RMB. I bought a knitting pattern book for only RMB 10 and was smiling away when I managed to get a Julia Quinn book for RMB 55. It is way cheaper than Singapore.

Didn't manage to get any movies on the first night. As we can't really find a place that sell them in a reasonable price.

Got 2 t-shirts for RMB 19 each and my colleague got pants for RMB 19. She is really spending her $$ on this trip. No shops had lose her patronage as she spend in every shop she enters. Even my male colleagues are saying that she really knows how to buy and buy. Spare no shops and goods. Must buy things that caught her eyes.

Monday, spend the day in training and went for a good dinner at one of the restaurant near our hotel. Sunday's dinner was disappointing as the mutton soup the guys ordered smells funny and I just can't bring myself to drink it. They ordered some kind of pig's intestines dish that I again can't bring myself to eat. (I don't eat internal organs)

So I just had veggie, some quid dish, two kinds of noodles, the dumplings was a failure, can you imagine Xiao Long Bao's covering is really bao and not that thin layer that we are used to in Singapore. The Jiao Zi is just dumpling skin covering the meat, like a foldover, MacDonald style. No nice nor is it piping hot.

Anyway, on Monday night, we manage to get some movies. Some old, some new but still can't find the show that James wanted. Need to keep a lookout for it.

Juggling our schedules to see if we can leave slightly early to visit the Forbidden City this afternoon as training had already ended. Just some Q&A session for about an hour or so. The trainers are going for their shopping at 3 so they will be leaving early today as well.

Two more days of Teambuilding exercises. Then it is back to Singapore, I miss my babies....

Winnings...

OMG, won some $$ last night. Got the abs from the system and went in search of the player to back but did something risky as I only bet on one side only and I back the player whom the site consider a dark horse as it is paying about USD100 for a USD 22 bet. Good win, I have factor in the fact that even if I were to have backed the losing party, all I am losing is USD 22 but if I won, it will be around USD 80 taking in my cost of USD 22.

In an extremely happy mood right now.

.. $$ .... Cheongsam ...

Finally got my Cheongsam this evening. Choosed it last Friday and send for some minor alterations, got it this evening. Not too bad, may post pics of D&D later showing all of us wearing the cheongsams. Hahaha...

On a lighter note, a girlfriend of mine showed me a program that allows me to win a bet by placing $$ on 2 bookmarkers. Even if one side loses, you will make back the lose from the winning side... but youwill only make enough profit if you have a lot of capital to start with.. for me, placing small bets, I am winning but it is only a few dollars at a time if I can get a good win.

Tired, going to sleep...

Weekend...

Went over to J.B. to celebrate James' birthday on Saturday.

Firstly, went to his favourite place for breakfast. They serve yong tou foo with chee cheong fun. Unique way to eat, right???

After which, we went to Tebrau City for a spot of shopping. Bought books at Popular and was surprise to find that I can use my Singapore card in Malaysia to get discount. Got 2 new knitting books and James got one for himself. He wrapped all the books up last night. So good....

Went to Pizza Hut for lunch and got to try out the new Cheesy Bits or Cheesy Bites, anyway, it is their newest pizza range. Rather ok for me.

Went over to Holiday Inn for a haircut for him and a wash & blow for me and the kids... The kids love it as they get to have their heads massage during the hair wash.

Had seafood dinner before we head back to Singapore before the jam starts.

I know that James had a good time there....As he gets to eat his favourite seafood...

Sunday, went down to Ikea to get new book shelves and other stuff and there goes our $$$. Sigh, the trouble with too many books is that you always have to find a place to store them and when the place on the bookshelf runs out, it is time to get another bigger bookshelf.

Will spend this weekend fixing up the new bookshelf before my trip to Beijing...

Cheongsam

Finally got my cheongsam this evening. After Pam and Karen had got theirs, I am starting to feel the pressure that I can't get mine in time because there is still the alterations that needs to be made to the cheongsam before it fits nicely.

It must be my lucky day that I got the one for me on my first visit there. Kat had gone there twice and still have not got hers. Finally she went to a tailor to get hers made. We got the shorter ones, just above our knees and she made a long one as she is rather tall...

Anyway, with just 3 weeks to go before D&D, everyone is in a "get the dress" kind of mood. "What are you wearing that night?" is the normal conversation starter these days.

Both Karen and Pam had send theirs back for more alterations. Hopefully I won't need to do that.

Back at work after National Day

Back at work after National Day. Went to watch the fireworks last night, James tried to take pictures of the firewords display but it turned out blurred for quite a few of them so I'll see if he send them to me later for me to put them up...hee hee...

Slow day today and just waiting for the weekend now...

The grief that the GL Accountant had caused last month was finally settled. My supervisor was glad that the figures are finally correct. I am glad too because I can't bear to see the figures being wrong for another month.

Anyway, believe that today should be a trouble-free day for me...

Just waiting for tomorrow and the weekend...

Dreaded getting up this morning because the bed was so comfortable. Snuggling under the blankets to keep warm, make me just want to sleep till noon today.

Unfortunately, it is closing as usual at the start of the month and tomorrow is a holiday. So it is off to work no matter what.

Just left with one more book to close and I am done for one of my system but there is another set of new stuff that I am learning from my colleague. Today is the due date for that report and I am still blogging away. But it is lunch time now so in a sense, it is my personal time till 12.30pm.

Checking and rechecking the figures to ensure that there are no surprises when we are ready to close either this evening or tomorrow morning. Yes, tomorrow morning, if we don't manage to close our books this evening, either my supervisor or myself will have to close it tomorrow.

Have decided that we are going into JB for shopping and most importantly, dinner.... Dear's favourite seafood is the main focus for dinner on Saturday night. It is his birthday treat for himself.

Still got no idea what to get for him....Sigh....

**PISSED**

Damned pissed about an issue and the more I think about it, the more pissed off I am right now.

My secretary was telling me that I am too softhearted, being taken in by a sob story. She was telling me her motto and also not to trust people so easily. This way others won’t frustrate me because I don’t give them the chance to frustrate me.

But the thing is that when you treat others as a friend, you believe in them and give them your trust. But right now, for all I know, she may have painted my reputation black to our group of friends.

PISSED.PISSED.PISSED. Shaking with anger when I am typing this.

Annual Dinner & Dance

Other companies have Annual D&D but I think my company have moved from Annual to once every two years (do they call it Bi-annually, wonder if this is the correct word for it). 2 years back we have it during the lunar 7th month, this year, we are having it during the lunar 7th month again. Guess when... September 9th, it is so close ot September 11th that some of my colleagues are saying that the organizing committee are not sensitive.

Anyway, this year's theme is Cross-Cultural dressing. So if you are Chinese, please wear a Japanese Kimono, or Indian Sari but not your Cheongsam. Likewise for the rest of the nationalities in my company. But the funny thing is that all of us ladies decide to wear cheongsam this round but the rule of thumb is that we must not wear something that looks like a chinese restaurant waitress.

All of us have made up our table groups and already 3 of them have got their cheongsams, the other 2 of us are still trying to get something because we would like to have a common theme for our table which is cheongsam for everyone. 8 ladies all wearing cheongsam, wonder if we will all look like Maggie Cheung when she wears her cheongsam in the movie, "In the Mood for Love". I fell in love with the cheongsam when I first saw how look she looks in that movie.

Have.To.Go.Shopping.For.My.Cheongsam.

Mindless rantings...

Was having a chat with my colleague the other day and we were talking about one of our ex-colleague.

It had been ages since she last called us and she never join us for any outings so far this year. In fact we were thinking if she is still in Singapore or currently out of the country.

Don't you feel funny when these so-called "friends" only remember you when they need help or when they want to just talk to someone, then they "remember" that they have you as a friend? I believe that we are disposable to them, in this case we should treat them as disposable too. Why treat them as friends when to them you are dispensable???

I know I may not be making sense because I have been trying to make sense of a grief that I am seeing in my report. Having a headache now because I have been trying to get the accountants to check why the grief had not been resolved. Been in the office since before 7 this morning and started writing and am still writing it now during my lunch time.

Need to attend another teleconference and web meeting at 12.30. Have called into the teleconference to listen in and view the slides on the net. The wonders of technology...
